If there’s one thing we Detroiters have learned over the past 50 years, it’s that no one is coming to save us. A real Detroiter is someone who understands that to get something done, you have to do it yourself. That DIY ethic is what gives the city its hardscrabble reputation, but it’s also what gives Detroit neighborhoods their charm. That’s what struck me most when reading Gail Rodwan’s new book, The Story of Sherwood Forest: One Hundred Years a Detroit Neighborhood. The attorney and author took it upon herself to amass the history of the oft-overlooked enclave on the occasion of its centennial. Ponyride Market returns for summer 2017

As the Corktown home to dozens of artists and small businesses, Ponyride has become an important community space for Detroit makers and creatives. This summer, they’re expanding their reach by introducing a summer series of their popular Ponyride Market. “This is a first, but we intend for this to be an annual event,” says Erin Patten, Ponyride’s director of retail and marketing. “Hopefully it will be a long-standing tradition at pony ride.” The Ponyride Market provides a space for the Ponyride residents and other small businesses to sell and promote their products.
