Palmer Park's New Splash Park Makes Waves in Detroit
Families can enjoy some end-of-summer fun at this state-of-the-art park, donated by the Lear Corporation
Metro Detroiters are invited to the Grand Opening Splash Party and Picnic for Palmer Park's new state-of-the art Splash Park for the chance to take one more dip before the end of summer – and it will be a cannonball!
Food, ice cream, music and lots and lots of watery fun highlight the opening celebration at 2 p.m. on Aug. 18, 2013, which also includes free 'Palmer Park Splash' T-shirts for the first 300 children.
Lear Corporation, a global supplier of automotive seating systems and electrical power management systems, donated the new park to the community. It features motion sensing splash fountains and jets programmed to turn on at 10 a.m. during the summer months and shut off at 8 p.m.
"The Splash Park will provide a safe, fun and creative play atmosphere for families, and will encourage more people to enjoy this wonderful park," Rochelle Lento, president of The People for Palmer Park said in a press release. "The People for Palmer Park (PFPP) is extremely grateful to Lear Corporation and the City of Detroit for selecting Palmer Park."
Palmer Park is located between Six and Seven Mile roads, west of Woodward Avenue in Detroit. The Splash Park will be open as long as weather permits.
