Wedded Bliss: LaToya Wilson and Charles Hopkins

BLAC celebrates love.

LaToya is a stay-at-home mom and Charles is a corrections officer for the State of Michigan. They currently reside in Pontiac and honeymooned in the Dominican Republic, where they also had their ceremony. Here, LaToya dishes on the details of their destination wedding.

Date: May 11, 2018

Ceremony: Sunscape Bávaro Beach Punta Cana Resort & Spa in Dominican Republic

First dance: "Angel" by Anita Baker

Photographer: Adventure Photos

THE CEREMONY

"We got married on the beach. I knew I wanted a small wedding in a tropical setting, and it absolutely had to include our three girls. We were so blessed to also be joined by 48 of our closest family and friends. I didn't want to deal with the stress that comes with planning a big wedding at home, so there was no doubt that a destination wedding would be perfect for us."

THE DRESS

"I purchased an absolutely gorgeous dress from now-closed Arena Bridal & Formal in Shelby Township. It was an ivory mermaid-style gown of organza and satin with a ruffled skirt that flowed into a layered chapel train. To complement the dress, I wore a gold, satin sash encrusted with beautiful rhinestones and a long cathedral veil trimmed in lace and sequins."

THE FLOWERS

"I made the bouquets myself. Mine was made of beautiful ivory and gold satin roses and covered in gold brooches. Some of the brooches were given to me by family and friends that couldn't attend, and some were in remembrance of family that have passed on. So, I was able to carry them with me on my special day."

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT

"We had lots, but the private catamaran boat ride was definitely special. We got to touch parrots, swim with stingrays and we were kissed by a huge sea lion, and the views were beautiful. The ultimate moment, though, was walking down the aisle to the man of my dreams and the love of my life."
