Wedded Bliss: Lakenya Evans and Lavell Neal

BLAC celebrates love.

Lakenya is a contact advocate for Henry Ford Health System and Lavell is a supervisor for Marriott Hotels' banquet department. The couple live in Detroit and, for their honeymoon, they cruised around the Caribbean visiting Nassau, Bahamas and Key West, Florida. Here, Lakenya shares details from their royal wedding day.

Date: April 28, 2018

Ceremony: Fountain of Truth Church in Detroit

Reception: The Kingborough Castle Banquet Center in Clinton Township

First dance: "So Amazing" by Luther Vandross

Photographer: GoodBoy Records

The Proposal

"We met as cast members of TJ Hemphill's hit gospel stage play Perilous Times, and after a year of dating, Lavell proposed to me on stage during our last show. I said 'yes' without hesitation, and then came the water works!"

The Reception

"We chose The Kingsborough Castle because, like the name suggests, it's an actual castle, which fit our 'royal' theme perfectly. It was breathtaking yet very intimate."

The Dress

"Lavell was brought to tears and left absolutely speechless when he saw me walking down the aisle in a simple but elegantly beaded gown, which I purchased from Alessandra Bridal in Warren."

The Food

"We enjoyed a main course of herb roasted chicken, broiled sirloin with mushrooms, bowtie alfredo, mashed potatoes with chicken gravy and California-style mixed vegetables, catered by the venue."

The Favors

"Our guests left with beautiful magazine-style programs that featured pictures of us and our bridal party, wedding details and our personal love story, made by Thelma Brown."

Most Memorable Moments

"Saying 'I do' to the man of my dreams and being pronounced Mrs. Neal was the highlight for me! Lavell says, 'Seeing her walk down the aisle literally brought tears to my eyes, knowing I would be spending the rest of my life with this beautiful woman of God.' Our guests also really loved the video detailing how we met; it came out perfectly and had everyone laughing uproariously."
