February is American Heart Month, which provides an opportunity to focus on heart disease, the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Some may take this time to revisit or initiate heart protection methods like reducing salt intake or cutting meat from diets as a way to eat more fruits and veggies. We surveyed our social media fans and readers to find the best Detroit eateries with tasty vegetarian or vegan menu options.
Here's what they dished:

Honest Johns:
488 Selden St., Detroit
313-832-5646
This bar and grill in the Cass Corridor serves breafast, appetizers and sandwiches. Honest Johns' vegetarian menu includes the "Spinach Artichoke Melt," "Tomato Reuben" or the "Pocket O'Joy" -- a pita with spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta and hummus.
Honest Johns was mentioned multiple times by our Facebook fans. In addition to Seva and Goodwells, poet jessica Care moore recommends Honest Johns “for the late night.”
Seva:
66 E. Forest Ave., Detroit
313-974-6661
Seva received numerous accolades on our Facebook page. Seva Restaurant’s completely vegetarian menu has been around since 1973 when it’s first location opened in Ann Arbor.
Seva Detroit's main menu items include "General Tso’s Cauliflower," and Seva's children’s menu offers the choice between vegan mac or mac & cheese with organic white cheddar. Seva’s bar is stocked with juice, smoothies, milkshakes, wine, sodas made with beet sugar and signature cocktails.
