Black History Month Events at Detroit Institute of Arts

BLAC Detroit's "Best Bet" for Black History Month's final weekend.

Enjoy Black History Month themed fun and entertainment Sunday, Feb. 24, in Detroit at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Pianist Pamela Wise

If you're in the mood to dance, the Detroit Institute of Arts' "Sunday Music Bar" concert series presents Pamela Wise, a pianist inspired by the Afro-Cuban music tradition, and her band, the Afro Cuban Jazz All Stars.

Wise blends Latin and jazz music with tight melodies and strong rhythms during two performances at 1 and 3 p.m. in the DIA's Kresge Court.

Live Artist Demonstration with Hubert Massey

Catch Michigan artist Hubert Massey's hands-on fresco demonstration in Rivera Court. Massey is known for community collaborative art and works to tell the stories of these communities with his work.

Massey designed the Rotunda room in the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, which details African American struggles.

His fresco style murals make him one of a few African American painters to adopt this style. This demonstration is appropriate for all ages and begins at 2 p.m.
