Damien McSwine Premieres his Film 'Full Body Detox: The Movie'

The detox advocate will also lecture as part of his 'Detoxing to the Bone' event on Feb. 9.

Native Detroiter Damien McSwine soaks up the sun and enjoys the naturally-growing fruits and vegetables of the Dominican Republic, but he's coming back to his hometown to spread the gospel of the full-body detox. It's a passion for him and during his lecture, Detoxing to the Bone, he'll share some of his best tips for a healthier, holistic lifestyle. It starts, he says, with a change in what goes into the body, which is really a matter of life and death.

"It takes energy to walk around with more weight," McSwine says. "It also takes energy to process foods that are not live – foods that are dead. Most of the foods that we consume, they're already dead foods, which is why when we go to the bathroom it smells so bad: because we're consuming dead foods. The live foods – the fruits and the vegetables – carry enzymes. Enzymes are construction workers, they put things back together. So if you want the energy, you have to eat the enzymes." McSwine advocates for at least a periodic three-week "detox," where an individual would eschew meats in favor of a more vegan lifestyle in order to help reset the body's engine. Those managing high blood pressure or diabetes might want to go longer than three weeks, if necessary, he adds.

The Detroit lecture will demystify the meaning, history and benefits of detoxification of the entire body. McSwine will also premiere his film, Full Body Detox: The Movie, starring co-producer and herbalist Djehuty Ma'at-Ra, Queen Afua, Doctah B Sirius, Keisha Harris, Nubia Sutton, along with numerous leading holistic practitioners from around North America. "Health is number one," he says. "It's not about you living to be 100, I'm helping you to be productive while you're here. My job is to give you the tools for you to go forth and be everything that you need to be."
