Out and About Gallery: Poets Honor MLK

Local artists pay tribute to MLK, raise literacy awareness

Seven Detroit-based artists gathered, Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Virgil H. Carr Cultural Arts Center to raise support for Reading Works during Free Verse: Poetry + Music Celebrating the Life + Legacy of Dr. Martin King, Jr. More than 150 audience members enjoyed poetry performances by Rhonda Welsh, Naomi Long Madgett, jessica Care moore, Khary Kimani Turner, Mahogany Jones and Jeff Nelson, as well as songs by Tim Clark and Audrey Mabins. DJ Andre Royster of EchoVerse also provided music.
