Your favorite “Housewives” are coming to town

Ashley Darby, Kenya Moore and Teresa Giudice will perform “The Vagina Monologues” on June 22.

The acclaimed play The Vagina Monologues is returning to the Andiamo Celebrity Showroom this week, and three of your favorite TV Housewives are set perform.

The Real Housewives of Potomac star Ashley Darby, The Real Housewives of Atlanta star (and Detroit native) Kenya Moore and The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice will all headline the performance, taking place on June 22.

Yes, the title can be shocking for the faint of heart, but if you want to get up close and personal with some of your weekly TV favorites, this is your shot.

We caught up with Potomac's Ashley Darby as she dished about why vaginas shouldn’t be a taboo topic.

Don’t let the show’s title shock you.

"For some reason, the female body is something that’s looked at to be almost bad, and I think that that is really what’s wrong with our society in general," Darby says. "When it seems like we’re meant to hide or be ashamed of who we are and our anatomy, and yet it’s okay to be objectified and oversexualized in our society and I just don’t understand why there’s that dichotomy. A woman should be able to embrace her body and talk freely about her experiences especially because for so long we have been oppressed. I appreciate that the Vagina Monologues is really bringing to the forefront the things that do happen to women every day, and really shining a spotlight on some of  those issues."

The show is not just for the ladies.

"I totally think that men should come to the show as well because it really is entertaining," Darby says. "The subject matter can be serious but there are also great bouts of laughter throughout the script, and I think everyone will be able to appreciate it in some capacity. It’s really not just about sex and not just about the vagina, it’s about life experiences in general."

There are relatable (and funny) moments throughout the show.

"I can completely relate [to the show]. One of the monologues that I’m reading is in relation to pubic hair and how there’s this stigma about public hair," Darby says. "It’s something that when I was coming into puberty myself, I had the same issues. I was learning how to wear a bathing suit for the first time with when I had pubic hair when I was like 12. I had to figure out how to be presentable when I went to the pool and I remember having a discussion with my mom about ‘what’s so bad about my body? This is on my body.’ I had to find some way to manipulate and change it just so I could go to a gosh darn pool."

The Vagina Monologues will hit the Andiamo Celebrity Showroom in Warren at 7 p.m. on June 22. Tickets start at $25 and are available on Ticketmaster. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Mariska Hargitay’s Joyful Heart Foundation as well as Care House of Macomb County.
