Better Detroit Brownie Company Teaches Students the Ins and Outs of Baking and Selling

Funds raised benefit the Better Detroit Youth Movement.

A gourmet dessert may foster a brighter future for kids. That's the goal of the Better Detroit Brownie Company, a newly launched social enterprise. It's aiming to train at least 50 elementary and high school students this year in baking and selling brownies – all to raise funds for the Better Detroit Youth Movement, a nonprofit coalition committed to bridging parents, schools and communities. The treats are available in original, sweet and spicy, cocoa coffee and cheesecake flavors and run about $10 for a trio.

Buy yours at Lucki's Cheesecakes at 7111 W. McNichols Ave. in Detroit (try a free sample noon-2 p.m. Wednesdays).
